Laura started learning to sign when she was 14 from Lin Fulton, an interpreter in Alabama. She continued learning while getting her Bachelor's in Business Administration from Sam Houston State University. She then attended Tyler Junior College for her Associates of Applied Science in Interpretation. After interpreting in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area for several years, she went on to Texas Tech University for her Master's degree in Applied Linguistics. While there, she earned advanced certifications through both BEI and NIC and taught ASL. Laura then spent a year in Turkey to teach English at Bahcesehir University before arriving at Gallaudet to begin her PhD in Interpretation.
