Library Mission
The University Library provides instructional, reference, and library collection services for the Gallaudet community, supporting uses of information resources and the development and enhancement of information literacy. The Library builds, maintains, and organizes the world's largest collection of deaf materials, as well as a collection of general materials, to support academic programs.
A related unit, Deaf Library Collections and Archives, has its own mission statement: The University Archives preserves Gallaudet's unique educational, cultural, and historical heritage. Responsibilities include digitization, indexing, and accessibility of archival materials. The Archives also preserves the artifactual heritage of the Deaf community and provides services to researchers.
