Gallaudet continues to support members of the campus community who have strong ties to Haiti. Fortunately, they report that their families in or around Port-au-Prince are safe. However, for some the January 12 earthquake's destruction meant the loss of friends and the irreplaceable destruction of property.

Institut Montfort, Port-au-Prince
Institut Montfort serves over 600 deaf and deaf-blind children in three locations in Haiti, with the largest center in Port-au-Prince.

St. Vincent's Center for Handicapped Children, Port-au-Prince
St. Vincent's is run by the Episcopal Bishop of Haiti. It is a residential and day program for 350 students. They serve deaf, blind, and physically handicapped students. They suffered building damage and six children and employees died in the earthquake. Father Sadoni is the director of the school.

The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation
The Foundation is primarily involved with research and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis. They are endorsing two agencies, Portlight Strategies and UCP Wheels for Humanity, who are providing direct support to people with disabilities in Haiti. Friends of Deaf Haiti
Howard County Association of the Deaf, a 501(c)(3) organization, is accepting donations on behalf of Friends of Deaf Haiti to benefit the Deaf Haiti Tent Community for displaced deaf Haitians and other relief causes. (Friends of Deaf Haiti is still in the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) organization).

Local restaurant and bar, Local 16, sponsoring fundraiser for two grassroots organizations supporting the children of Haiti, including deaf children: PAZAPA and the Haitian Timoun Foundations. - Relief Drive for the Institut Monfort for Deaf Children
January 26 & 28, noon-1 p.m., JSAC Flex A/B - Athletics raised money for the Red Cross at the January 13 and January 20 basketball games.
