Students with Disabilities Orientation
The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSWD) is providing a three-day orientation (August 18-20, 2013) for students with diagnosed disabilities (learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, deaf-blindness, mobility impairments, and psychological disabilities, for instance) prior to the New Students Orientation (NSO) in August. After the three-day orientation, students then participate in NSO (August 21-23, 2013).
If you have a diagnosed disability that requires accommodations at Gallaudet, fill out an intake package. To ensure you receive services, make sure you submit disability documentation directly to OSWD as early as possible. OSWD staff will help provide accommodations for you during NSO and throughout your college years.
During the three-day OSWD Orientation, students learn more about OSWD services and meet with OSWD staff to review their needs for accommodation. This early start provides students with the time to navigate and acclimate to the new campus. In addition to receiving comprehensive placement testing, when necessary, students will also be able to meet with their instructors to discuss their needs. Also included during Orientation are intake sessions; support service counseling; seminars in advocacy and survival and study skills; orientation to the campus; mobility training; and adaptive technology assessment.
Contact OSWD@gallaudet.edu for more information about accommodations and OSWD Orientation.
