Career Consultation

Career Consultants advise students throughout the career development process and assist them in developing and practicing effective career management skills.  Students can make an appointment with a Career Consultant to discuss internship and job opportunities, get feedback on their resumes and/or cover letters, and receive assistance in preparing for interviews.

Each consultant works with specific academic departments, therefore, students should meet with the consultant assigned to their particular major.  (See listing below to determine who your consultant is.)

Schedule an appointment with your consultant

There are two ways of making an appointment with your consultant:

  • Via the Career Center. All you need to do is come by the Career Center at IK Jordan Student Academic Center (SAC) room #2221 and speak with the Peer Career Adviser on duty. Directions to the office can be found using the campus map or SAC map.
  • Via the Bison CareerLink (BCL). If you are a current student or alumni, you can log-in at the BCL front page and follow the instructions. For more information, please go to the BCL page

GSR 110: Career Development Course

GSR 110 is a required one-credit course and must be completed before students can take the GSR 300 Capstone course. This course is designed to help incoming and transfer students develop a resume, practice networking and interview skills and develop a plan that will lead to an internship to explore their career interests. Contact Deb Moore at for more information.

Career Center Library

The Career Library is the center of student activity for the Career Center. It contains an extensive collection of career-related books, catalogs, directories, and other materials. The Career Library also has information on graduate schools and graduate school testing. The library houses computers which students can use to work on their resumes and cover letters and search for internships, on and off campus employment, and career related information and resources.

  • Graduate School Information and Testing
  • Extensive Career-Related Materials
  • Peer Advising Assistance

Students can also use the library or the Bison CareerLink (BCL) to make appointments with their Career Consultants, sign up for mock interviews, and find out about upcoming Career Center events.

Peer Career Advisers (PCAs) are on duty daily to assist students with making appointments and any questions they may have related to Career Center services.  They also help students learn how to navigate the BCL system to search for internships and jobs and post their resumes and cover letters.
