Our Art and Media Design programs are led by an internationally renowned faculty trained in disciplines spanning traditional art to digital media and performing arts. Students are challenged through carefully designed curricula to develop strong knowledge bases, technical skills, and portfolios that open doors to a wide range of professional careers. All programs prepare students to be creative problem-solvers, dynamic leaders, effective communicators, and innovative artists affecting positive social change.
Art and Media students enjoy the lively art community and world-class resources DC has to offer. Students are encouraged to visit places such as the Phillips Collection, National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian collections, the Hirshhorn Museum, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and The Library of Congress to gain inspiration throughout their studies. This unique Washington, D.C. experience combined with internship opportunities and real-world projects allows students to flourish in creative careers after graduation.
This project's goal is to build a global digital library on the Storybook apps, by offering training and sparking collaborations.
The Gallaudet Dance Company is a team composed of undergraduate and graduate students. The team has performed in several locations around the world and in high-profile locations such as the White House.
Art and Media students interested in gaining experience in marketing and advertising can help Campus Activities reach the GU community through carefully designed flyers and pamphlets.
There is no better way to solidify what you have learned than through sharing your knowledge with other students. Through lab assistantships, you will be able to earn money while you improve your skills and knowledge.
The Washburn Arts Center includes two fully equipped graphic design labs, two drawing/painting studios, a design studio, a large ceramics studio, a complete photography studio, film/digital media production equipment, electronically-enhanced classrooms, and a large gallery for visiting and student art exhibitions.
The Buff and Blue is a student-run newspaper that operates throughout the academic year. Students may contribute through writing, reporting, editing, and design.
As a student organization, Bison TV provides ample opportunities to students who are interested in media and reporting. Art students can gain experience in production, writing, editing, photography, videography, and much more.
Each year, students in the Tower Clock organization gather information, construct, edit, produce, and disseminate the Gallaudet yearbook. Students interested in graphic design, photography, editing, and writing can find ample opportunities to contribute and gain experience.
University Communications puts together the Gallaudet Today magazine twice a year, in the Fall and the Spring, with the assistance of Gallaudet students. Art students have the perfect opportunity to learn about print production and gain invaluable experience in the field.
We provide multiple opportunities for students to establish professional work experience through our close association with world-renowned museums, galleries, companies, and on-campus resources. The internship program selects the most accomplished students and works to place them in jobs within their field of study. Through these distinguished organizations and individuals— be it an artist studio, film house, design firm, advertising agency, or media group— you can catch a glimpse of the outside world and produce work that serves as a launching pad to your future.
Our students have interned at Synetic Theater, Imagination Stage, Faction of Fools, the Theatre Lab, the Warner Theatre, Arena Stage, the Kennedy Center, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Theater de la Jeune Lune, Deaf West, Cleveland Signstage Theatre, the Smithsonian, and Gallaudet’s Motion Light Lab (ML2).
