Pre- Tenure or Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Public Health

General Information:   The Department of Science, Technology, & Mathematics seeks a pre-tenure or tenure-track faculty member to support a new stand-alone undergraduate Public Health (PH) program, which offers an undergraduate major (BSPH) and minor. The successful candidate should demonstrate professional-level work experience and leadership in the PH field, in addition to demonstrated competency in teaching, scholarship/research, and service. Competence in American Sign Language is required. Applicants new at ASL will be required to learn the language and demonstrate competence as stipulated in the Handbook. Support for learning ASL includes ASL classes, tutoring and gatherings. Rank and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The 9-month appointment is for the academic year beginning August 16, 2018. Position is contingent on funding.



1.  Teach PH courses on multiple topics, including, but not limited to, the following: foundations of public health, epidemiology, healthcare systems and policy, behavioral health, environmental health.
2. Teach undergraduate courses with PH themes for the interdisciplinary general studies (GSR) program.
3.  Engage in scholarship/research in the PH field, including grant-funded research.
4.   Advise and mentor students in the PH major.
5.   Provide mentored undergraduate research experiences.
6.   Participate in department and university faculty activities and professional service.
7.   Participate in data collection for program-level assessment and the CEPH accreditation application process.


1.  An earned doctorate (PhD or DrPH) in public health, epidemiology, or a closely related field, or a terminal professional degree (e.g., MD, JD) and an MPH.  Exceptional candidates with an earned MPH and a doctoral degree in progress are encouraged to apply.
2.  A record of or potential for outstanding teaching, scholarship, and a commitment to service.
3.  Competence in American Sign Language (ASL) is required. Newly hired faculty who are new to ASL will be required to learn the language and demonstrate competence over time as stipulated in the Faculty Handbook.  Support for learning ASL includes ASL classes, tutoring, and gatherings.
4.  Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
