Short Biography

Dr. Christina Yuknis joined the faculty in the department of education in 2008. Originally from Buffalo, NY, she started her educational career by working as a coordinator for a respite program at a non-profit organization serving adults with disabilities while studying for her Bachelor's degree. Upon moving to the DC area for her Master's program, she worked at another non-profit as a job coach and community specialist for adults with disabilities.

After graduating, Christina realized it was time to take the plunge and do what she always wanted to do: teach. She started her career as a special education teacher in a middle school program teaching math and science. Later, she transferred to the deaf education program and taught English and reading.

While teaching in the deaf education program, Christina started her Doctoral studies in Education Policy, and she realized a passion for policy work. When she saw a policy position open up in her district, she applied and became the first ever policy evaluation specialist. This role was exciting and ignited her passion for policy, but it also highlighted her need to be in a classroom. It was at this time that Christina returned home to Gallaudet.

In her spare time, Christina enjoys catching up on TV (especially Doctor Who), reading, baking, training for multisport competitions, and hanging with her dogs.
