M.A. in Sign Language Education

Requirements

  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate study, including evidence of having received a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. (Those applying during their final undergraduate year will be required to submit a final transcript after completion of their bachelor's degree and before enrolling in their first semester of graduate study.)
  • Official transcripts of all graduate study.
  • International applicants should review this page on how to submit their transcript(s).
  • A minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a four-point scale) in all previous undergraduate and graduate study. (Occasionally, applicants with a GPA lower than 3.0 may be admitted conditionally upon the recommendation of the department.)
  • A non-refundable application fee of $75.
  • A completed graduate school application form.

  • TOEFL is required from all international applicants from non-English speaking countries. (Use 5240 for the ETS institutional code)
  • If you are offered admission: The immunization laws for the District of Columbia require all students to provide proof of immunization prior to enrolling. Please visit the Student Health Services website for more information.

Additional Program Requirements

  • Video interview with the Masters in Sign Language Education screening committee. (Access your interview here AFTER you submit your Summer 2018 application)
  • Applicants are required to submit three names of references and their email addresses. Hobson's automated program will then send an email to those references with a Likert-based evaluation form that they are to complete and return to Hobson.
  • ASLPI result of 4 or above for ASL educators and 3+ or above for educators of other signed languages

You are required to submit evidence of your American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) result of 4 or above to Graduate Admissions Office.

For teachers of other signed languages, you will be required to submit evidence of your ASLPI result of 3+ or above to Graduate Admissions Office.  Other types of sign language proficiency interview scores will not be accepted.
