Your Partners in Wellness!

Welcome to the Health and Wellness Programs (HWP), where we are dedicated to elevating the well-being of our students and creating a campus community that thrives on holistic wellness!

Our mission is for you to own your story and journey throughout your time here as a student.

Discover Your Path to Holistic Wellness!

At HWP, we understand your experience here is unique to you. Everyone will make their own decisions when it comes to their collegiate experience and we are here alongside you to make the best out of it. When we realize that wellness is multidimensional, we can truly focus on making ourselves whole. HWP is here to offer to be your co-navigators with you on your journey across the eight dimensions of wellness:

  • Emotional: Nurturing your emotional health is key to overall well-being.
  • Physical: A healthy body is the foundation for a gratifying life.
  • Occupational: Fulfillment in one’s work influences mental, emotional, and physical health.
  • Social: Foster meaningful connections within our community.
  • Spiritual: Discover inner peace and purpose through spiritual exploration.
  • Intellectual: Engage your mind and expand your horizons.
  • Environmental: Understand the impact of your surroundings on Earth and even yourself.
  • Financial: Recognize how finances can play a part in your overall well-being.

Campus Engagement

Our inclusive, cross-departmental events and initiatives–both digitally and in-person–are designed to engage every member of our diverse campus, fostering connections and promoting holistic well-being. By breaking down barriers, we create a space where all can come together to share experiences and insights. Join us in shaping a campus where everyone is informed, supported, and empowered to prioritize personal and community wellness.

Peer Health Advocates: For Students, By Students

Our dedicated Peer Health Advocates (PHAs) also play a pivotal role in promoting wellness within the Gallaudet community. They are student paraprofessionals who serve as student health and wellness researchers. As students themselves, they understand the unique challenges you may face and are tasked with finding and disseminating relevant resources for all to engage with and benefit from to ensure all tools needed for a successful and fulfilling college experience.

Campus Life Questions

The Health and Wellness Programs office provides tips for hosting a safer event or party. Student-based organizations hosting a party should contact the Health and Wellness Program two weeks in advance to set up a meeting.
In Ely 103, the Health and Wellness Programs gives out male and female condoms, in addition to dental dams. We have both latex and latex-free condoms with a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and textures. Students can get ten free condoms per visit. For distribution at an event or to a large group of people, we ask that you set up a program with the Health and Wellness Program office, so we can pair the distribution with safer sex education. Please contact us for more information.
The Health and Wellness Programs employs full-time undergraduate students as Peer Health Advocates. These students are an essential element in educating the Gallaudet community about health-related topics. For more information, please visit our Peer Health Advocates page or contact us.
